What type of wood works best for building outdoor furniture, picnic tables, Adirondack chairs?
6 Answers
it depends what available the best would be either cedar or redwood
from uk
if i remember rightly from a u.s . woodwork program [the one with Norm. in] he said that you should use teak wood for outdoor furniture if you can afford it.
Quite a number of woods are used for making out outdoor furniture.
There are : Alder, Braziillian Cherry, Cedar, Cypress, Mahogany, Pressure treated Pine and Shorea.
The above timbers can be order from Ebay.
btw Teak is a tropical soft wood, excellent for indoor furnitures, but when exposed to inclement weather it will lose it's oil content and cracking may occurred and lose it beauty.
teak or redwood
The most popular woods for outdoor use are, in order of cost, teak, redwood, cedar, and pressure treated pine. If this is your first such project I'd go with the PTP because it's reasonable in price, easy to work with, and will outlast cedar as far as weather and insect infestation. Once the wood has dried, after construction, you can paint or stain it as you desire, although it doesn't look very bad left as it is.
If rosewood is available, I suggest to buy rosewood that is durable and of high quality. Here provide rosewood furniture that of high quality. maybe it will give you a good idea.
